Arvind Kejriwal resigns as Delhi Chief Minister hours after picking Atishi as his successor
Atishi takes charge, vows to continue Kejriwal’s legacy
Atishi, the newly appointed Chief Minister, expressed her commitment to working for the people of Delhi and securing victory in the upcoming election. Speaking to reporters, she referred to Kejriwal as her "mentor" and assured that her primary goal would be his return to power. "Delhi has only one Chief Minister, and that is Kejriwal," she declared, while also accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of conspiring against Kejriwal with "fake charges."
AAP leadership endorses Atishi
Earlier, the AAP announced Atishi’s unanimous selection as the leader of its legislative party, positioning her to lead the party until the next Assembly election in February. Kejriwal, however, has called for an early election, possibly as soon as next month.
Kejriwal's call for public justice
Following his release from jail, Kejriwal made a dramatic statement, asserting that while he received justice from the legal system, he now seeks justice from the people of Delhi. "I want to ask the people of Delhi, is Kejriwal innocent or guilty? If I have worked, vote for me," he declared.
BJP vs AAP: Political showdown
Atishi’s succession comes amidst ongoing tensions with the BJP, as Kejriwal continues to deny the corruption charges against him. The former CM was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in March and later by the Central Bureau of Investigation in June, both linked to the liquor policy scam.
