Kannauj rape case: DNA sample of accused Nawab Singh Yadav matches with victim, say police

Kannauj rape case: The Uttar Pradesh police have received the DNA report of former Samajwadi Party leader Nawab Singh Yadav, who is accused of raping a minor girl in Kannauj district. In a significant development in the case, the police have received the DNA test report. As per the SP Amit Kumar, Nawab Singh Yadav’s DNA sample has matched, confirming his involvement in the crime. Further legal proceedings are expected to follow based on this evidence.

Following a court order, the Kannuj Police had collected the DNA sample from Yadav on August 16. The sample was taken by a team of doctors at the district jail, according to a police official. Kamlesh Kumar, the Circle Officer (CO) of Kannauj Sadar, said that during a court hearing, Yadav had agreed to provide his DNA sample when asked by the judge.

Yadav, who manages a private educational institution and is a former Samajwadi Party block head, has been accused of raping the minor on the pretext of offering her a job. The girl's aunt, who had taken her to Yadav's private inter-college in the intervening night of August 11 and August 12 on the pretext of getting her a job, has also been arrested.

Cash reward declared Nawab Singh Yadav brother's arrest

Meanwhile, the Police are also looking for the brother of Nawab Singh Yadav and have announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on information leading to his arrest, officials said. It is alleged that Neelu, Yadav's brother, misled the police investigation in the case by pressuring the victim's aunt to change her statement in Yadav's favour in lieu of money. "Police are searching for Neelu Yadav, the brother of rape accused Nawab Singh Yadav, on the charge of changing the statement of the accused aunt in the rape case. The police team is continuously raiding for the arrest of Neelu Yadav. A reward of Rs 25,000 has been announced on Neelu Yadav, who is absconding," Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand said last week.
