The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a man in Nangloi for stealing cars and mobile phones. The accused seemed to be inspired by the movie — Gone in Sixty Second — wherein the lead character steals high-end cars in seconds with his associates.
The accused was identified as 31-year-old Yaseen, a resident of Nangloi in New Delhi. 6 stolen two-vehicles and a stolen mobile phone were recovered from his possession.
Since Yaseen had no associate, he browsed for two-wheelers ads on online portal. Then, he used to call the sellers as a probable buyer and under the garb of a test drive, he used to flee away riding the two-wheeler.
He is also accused of stealing a mobile with the same modus operandi from Peeragarhi, Delhi.
The matter came to light on August 4, when a complaint was received at Safdarjung Enclave in South-West Delhi, wherein the complainant alleged that he post an advertisement on online platform to sell his old bike.
The complainant said that a person namely Yaseen contacted him and met him to see the condition of the bike near Rajendra Dhaba and then disappeared with the bike on the pretext of a test ride.
Soon, a police investigation was initiated to nab the accused.
During the investigation, it was observed that these criminals mainly focus on theft through online platform ads.
On August 11, a raid was conducted at Nangloi, where Yasseen lived, and the accused was apprehended with a stolen scooty.
Confessing to the crime he committed, Yaseen said that he is fond of Hindi dubbed version of Hollywood movies and has always dreamt big.
