The Delhi Police arrested Rambabu, also known as Jungle Boy, on Monday from Sainik Farms area after a brief shootout. The accused carried a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head and was wanted in three cases, including that of murder and for causing grievous hurt.
He is infamous for hiding in forest areas and operating from there and hence is called ‘Jungle Boy’.
As per a tip-off, the accused was supposed to come from Faridabad forest area and go towards Sainik Farms to meet an associate. Police were informed that he may also carry a deadly weapon.
Acting on the information, a police team laid a trap at on Monday morning near Ram-Balram farm in Sainik Farms region. The police was armed with ammunition and bullet-proof jackets.
At 8.10 am, the accused was seen coming from the jungle and soon after, the police team surrounded him. He tried to flee after he was asked to stop by the police. As the police chased him, he fired back on some police officers after which three rounds were fired in the air by the police as a warning for the accused. However, when the accused tried to fire another bullet, he was overpowered by police officials.
During the operation, one cop Ajay Dagar got injured while cop Narender was left unhurt as he was wearing a bullet-proof vest. They were taken to the nearest hospital.
The police recovered a countrymade pistol and three live cartridges from the accused. A non-bailable warrant was also issued for him by the court and proclaimed offender (PO) proceedings were initiated.ADVERTISEMENT
On May 17, a 21-year-old resident of Sangam Vihar, Rohit was found murdered. The weapon used in the murder has been recovered from the accused Rambabu aka Jungle Boy.
