Mysterious Illness Claims 79 Lives in DR Congo

A mysterious illness causing flu-like symptoms has killed at least 79 people, primarily aged 15-18, in the Panzi health zone of Kwango Province, DR Congo. Over 300 have been infected, showing symptoms like fever, cough, breathing difficulties, and anaemia.

Response teams and the WHO are investigating, with samples sent for lab analysis. Authorities urge precautions, including handwashing and avoiding mass gatherings, as medicine shortages worsen the crisis. The nation is also battling mpox and periodic Ebola outbreaks.
