Himachal CM's Wife Kamlesh Thakur Dominates Dehra By-Poll, Leads By Over 9,000 Votes

Dehra (Himachal Pradesh): In the ongoing Assembly by-poll results in Himachal Pradesh, Kamlesh Thakur, wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has taken a commanding lead in the Dehra constituency as the Congress candidate. According to the Election Commission of India's latest update, Thakur has secured 28, 641 votes, leading her closest rival Hoshyar Singh of the BJP by 9,399 votes.

The by-elections, which took place on July 10, also saw Congress candidates ahead in the other two contested constituencies. In Nalagarh, Hardeep Singh Bawa leads with 3,548 votes over BJP's K L Thakur, while in Hamirpur, Congress' Pushpinder Verma leads against BJP's Ashish Sharma.

Voter turnout was robust across constituencies, with Nalagarh recording the highest 79.04 per cent, followed by Hamirpur at 67.72 per cent and Dehra at 65,42 per cent. These by-elections were necessitated after three Independent legislators, who supported BJP in the Rajya Sabha polls earlier, resigned from their seats in March and subsequently joined the BJP. This triggered the need for by-elections as their resignations were accepted by the Assembly speaker in June.

Kamlesh Thakur's candidacy in Dehra was notable as she replaced veteran leader Rajesh Sharma, who contested unsuccessfully in 2022. Besides Dehra, Hamirpur and Nalagarh Assembly Constituencies also went to polls in the July 10 Assembly by-election. Voting was held on a total of 13 seats across seven states.
