'Mother India In Pain': Sunita Reads Out Husband's Message At 'Save Democracy Rally'

New Delhi: Sunita Kejriwal, who appeared one of the fulcrums of the 'Save Democracy Rally', read out a message of her husband in Delhi on Sunday. She delivered written message by her husband and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inside the Enforcement Directorate's custody.

"Mother India is in pain, this tyranny won't work. My husband getting lots of blessings," she said at the rally. She also spoke about her husband's six guarantees ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

"People of Delhi have faced injustice in last 75 years; we will make Delhi full state if INDIA bloc comes to power. If voted to power, INDIA bloc to fulfill 6 guarantees. Once you give opportunity to INDIA bloc, we'll build a great nation," Sunita added.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, leader Rahul Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and a bevy of INDIA alliance leaders arrived at the venue. They are teaming up with AAP leaders to renew INDIA bloc's battle at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday against BJP-led NDA ahead of the Lok Sabha polls which commences from April 19.

NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Sharad Pawar, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI general secretary D Raja, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren were among the first to reach the Ramlila Maidan.

The Congress has said the rally will send a "strong message" to the Centre at the Lok Kalyan Marg, where the Prime Minister's residence is located. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest has emerged as the latest potent issue tor the INDIA bloc to renew its battle against BJP-led NDA ahead of the Lok Sabha polls which commences from April 19. One of the highlight of the rally is the attendance of Hemant Soren's wife, Kalpana Soren, along with Kejriwal's wife, Sunita. Both met each other Friday and said they have decided to "take the fight forward together".

The assemblage is aimed at sending a message to the Centre in a show of strength that is called the ‘Loktantra Bachao’ (save democracy) rally. The event is also being seen as the Opposition's show of unity as well in the backdrop of the arrest of Delhi chief minister and AAP national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in the liquor policy case.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) unit in Punjab, which is pulling out all stops to make the rally a success, has asked its leaders and workers to leave for Delhi in the party’s grand rally in small groups and by different modes of transportation, fearing “the BJP-ruled Haryana government will not allow them to cross its borders” to reach the national capital.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on March 29 asked party MLAs and leaders to ensure the participation of 2,000 people each from their respective constituencies to put up a massive show of strength in the national capital.

The issue of Centre's 'misuse' of agencies to hound the Opposition leaders has taken centre stage after the arrests of Mr Kejriwal and former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, and the tax notices issued to the Congress, including one for ₹ 1,800 crore which was sent on Friday.
